How to Use the Pressure Converter

  1. Type any value. Enter a number in any unit field and all 8 units update at once. No button to press.
  2. Common use case: tire pressure. Car tires in the US are rated in PSI (typically 32-35 psi). European vehicles often use bar (2.2-2.5 bar). Type your tire pressure in the PSI or bar field to see the equivalent.
  3. Common use case: blood pressure. Blood pressure is measured in mmHg (millimeters of mercury). A normal reading is 120/80 mmHg. Type 120 in the mmHg field to compare with other units.
  4. Common use case: weather. Barometric pressure in weather forecasts uses millibars (1 mbar = 0.1 kPa) or inches of mercury (inHg). Standard atmosphere is 1013.25 mbar = 29.92 inHg.

Example: a car tire inflated to 35 psi. Type 35 in the PSI field to see: 241,317 Pa, 241.317 kPa, 0.241317 MPa, 2.41317 bar, 1 atm would be 14.696 psi, 1,810 mmHg.

Pressure Conversion Formulas

All conversions use pascals (Pa) as the base unit:

Value in pascals = Input × toPascals factor
Result in target unit = Value in pascals ÷ toPascals factor
UnitPascals (exact or standard)1 Pa equals
1 pascal1 Pa1 Pa
1 kilopascal1,000 Pa0.001 kPa
1 megapascal1,000,000 Pa0.000001 MPa

1 mmHg (Torr)133.322 Pa0.0075006 mmHg
1 inHg3,386.389 Pa0.000295300 inHg

Useful reference points: standard atmosphere (1 atm) = 101,325 Pa = 14.696 psi = 760 mmHg = 29.921 inHg = 1.01325 bar. These are the conditions at sea level that define "standard" in many engineering and scientific calculations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Multiply PSI by 0.0689476 to get bar. Or divide PSI by 14.5038. For example, 35 psi (common car tire pressure) = 35 × 0.068948 = 2.413 bar. To go from bar to PSI, multiply bar by 14.5038. A quick mental check: 1 bar is about 14.5 psi, so 2 bar is about 29 psi and 3 bar is about 43.5 psi.
