How to Use the Time Zone Calculator

  1. Enter the reference date and time. Defaults to the current date and time in your browser.
  2. Select the From timezone. This is the timezone the entered time is in. For example, if you are in New York and it is 3:00 PM, select UTC-05:00 (Eastern Time).
  3. Select the To timezone. This is the timezone you want to convert to.
  4. Read the result. The converted time appears on the right, along with whether it is the same day, next day, or previous day.
  5. World clock. The table below the result shows what time it is simultaneously in 8 major cities around the world.
This calculator uses fixed UTC offsets and does not account for Daylight Saving Time (DST). New York is UTC-5 in winter and UTC-4 in summer. London is UTC+0 in winter and UTC+1 in summer. For precision scheduling, verify DST status for the specific date.

How Time Zone Conversion Works

Every time zone is defined by an offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). To convert between time zones:

UTC time = Local time - UTC offset
Target local time = UTC time + Target UTC offset

Simplified:
Target time = Source time + (Target offset - Source offset)

Example: Convert 3:00 PM New York (UTC-5) to Tokyo (UTC+9):

Difference = UTC+9 - UTC-5 = +14 hours
Tokyo time = 3:00 PM + 14 hours = 5:00 AM (next day)

Major UTC offsets (standard time, no DST):
